Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad is famously known as IIM Ahmedabad or IIMA was established on December 11th, 1960. The founding member of the institute is an eminent physicist and scientist Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and businessman Shree Kasturbhai Lalbhai. Dr. Jivraj Mehta, then chief minister of Gujarat was also a great supporter into the foundation of this world-class institute. The founding and first director of IIM Ahmedabad was Ravi John Matthai. Institute was founded with the contribution of the local businessmen from Ahmedabad, central and state government, Harvard Business School and Ford Foundation.
Today IIM Ahmedabad is the undisputed number one B School in the country. Core courses offered by the institute are Ph. D. Programme in Management, Two Year Post Graduate Program in Management (MBA), Two Year Post Graduate Programme in Food & Agri-Business Management (MBA-FABM), One Year Full Time Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executive (MBA – PGPX), Faculty Development Programme (FDP), Armed Forces Programme(AFP) and ePost Graduate Programme, ePost Graduate Programme in Advanced Business Analytics(ePGD-ABA). IIM Ahmedabad is an autonomous institution managed by the IIMA Society, charter under the Societies Act & is also run by a Board of Governors which are constituted by IIMA Society. Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla is the current chairman of the institute and Prof Errol D’Souza is the current director of the institute.

Many IIM Ahmedabad alumni are today top bureaucrats, deans and directors of top B Schools around the world, famous business consultants, CEOs, best-selling authors and cricket commentators. The institute has been recognized as the best B School in India and a premier management institute in India by many national and international surveys. It is also the first B School in India to be awarded EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) accreditation by the EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development) in 2008. IIMA was also ranked top B-Schools of India by several other agencies like MHRD-NIRF, Business Today and Outlook magazine several times.
The campus of IIM Ahmedabad is surrounded by lush green 100-acre oases, situated at Vastrapur area of Ahmedabad. IIM Ahmedabad is spread across two campuses known to be old campus and new campus which are separated by 132 ft ring road. The campus has modern classroom facilities with LCD projectors and audio-visual facilities for digital learning. The separate facility provided to each student with personal computers, a hostel for both boys and girls, hygienic food, CCTV surveillance, etc. Moreover, students gets facilities like a cafeteria, seminar hall, Gym, Sports, ATM, general store and medical facilities. The total intake of IIM Ahmedabad is around 750 students per year spread across different courses mentioned above.
IIM Ahmedabad has a unique pattern of learning through case studies and classroom discussion which is acclaimed across the world. The admission process of IIM Ahmedabad is very unique and invites intake from a diversified group of students even at a lower CAT score. The general ratio of students of any batch has more engineers and science students than other streams. However, non-engineers and students from Arts and Commerce have also found admission in IIMA with lower CAT percentile. The total fees of IIM Ahmedabad course is Rs. 23,00,000/-.
